Acquired Brain Injury
A neuro-rehabilitation service for people impacted by an acquired neurological condition.
Neuropsychology
There are many neurological conditions, with examples including: Traumatic brain injury, Stroke, Hypoxia, Brain Infections and Tumours, Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson's Disease. Damage to the brain can have a profound affect on a person's cognitive/thinking skills, their physical abilities, their emotional processing, behaviour or personality. These changes can be devastating for the individual and their loved ones.
Neuropsychological rehabilitation at Cogniful Psychology can help individuals with a brain injury reach their maximum potential recovery and assist them to manage the ongoing challenges effectively.
We work with individuals directly or through case managers, multi-disciplinary or care teams, combining expertise to ensure positive outcomes for our clients.
Cogniful Psychology offers person centred, assessment and evidence based rehabilitation. We might work to improve independent living skills or participation in important aspects of daily life, whatever is important to client.
Through therapy, we help clients to move towards a life that matters.
How we can help?
Treatment may include psychological support for difficulties that impact on day to day activities, relationships, work or engagement in the community. Clients may be offered:
- Education and advice to help make sense and manage the complex effects of a brain injury.
- Cognitive rehabilitation to address impairments in memory, attention, learning and executive functioning.
- Psychological therapy to support adjustment and treat mood-related problems (e.g. Depression, Anxiety, Anger and Loss).
- Vocational rehabilitation to assist clients to explore, seek out, re-enter or maintain employment.
- Intervention for behaviour considered challenging, which places someone at risk of not having their needs met.
